Healthy Habits to Prevent the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you’re a Christian and you’re panicking about Corona virus, you should stop because you believe in God’s will and the inability to cheat death.

If you’re a science based person and you’re panicking about Corona virus, you should stop because you understand that scientists are doing science things and that a common virus like this really only poses major threat to immunodeficient people and it scientifically proven that everyone is going to die at some point.

If you’re Karen based, you’ve probably purchased an entire Costco.

I kid, I kid.

I vividly remember the swine flu outbreak. It was 2009. Emily was 5 & Haylie was 9. And as a parent, the reports of children dying from H1N1 TOTALLY terrified me. ⁣⁣
I immediately started doing my research. Everything that I read basically stated that people who were healthy and had strong immune systems were not at great risk. ⁣⁣
At 28, I was pretty clueless about health. In fact, I was sick A LOT and didn’t know I had control over it. ⁣⁣
Once I started researching how to arm ourselves against this virus, I realized that the best way was to improve our nutrition. ⁣⁣
At the time, we were living off of McDonald’s , soda, junk food and high calorie, fatty processed foods with little to no nutritional value. The only veggies we ate was canned green beans and corn ??‍♀️⁣⁣
I immediately went to work at changing our diets. I remember cooking homemade chicken noodle soup for the first time because it was said that it was a good for an immune boost. I clearly remember it because it also said that pepper helped so I over peppered it and it was hot AF. ⁣⁣
What is funny/sad, is that as soon as we got the “all clear” and the Swine Flu was no longer a huge threat, we returned back to our old lifestyle. ⁣⁣

This week, it seems like everybody’s freaking out, going into full on panic mode, taking all of these precautionary measures to prevent them from getting the Coronavirus. Everyone is like “wash your hands”, “sanitize your areas”, “cover your mouth”, etc. and it reminds me of Mindy from 2009.⁣⁣ ‬

Although I do take it seriously, I’m also not in panic mode. I am cool as a cucumber. I am not perfect, but I am HEALTHY AF. I’ve worked damn hard to cultivate & maintain a healthy lifestyle that puts my family & I less at risk of getting sick.

What I have read is that those who are at risk of contracting the Coronavirus are those who are not in good health and those who are at risk of dying after contracting COVID-19, are those with underlying health conditions. ⁣⁣

What I find puzzling is that for some reason these people aren’t equally scared of food related disease & illness, which is ? preventable with the proper lifestyle choices. (I also want to add, that you should consider washing your hands & sanitizing your home, when there’s not a global virus panic also._

Did you know that in the last 30 years, obesity rates have doubled in adults, tripled in children, and quadrupled in adolescents??

The registered nutritionist & dietitian that I personally worked with 2 years ago shared this:

Kids are always going to ask for sugary and packaged snacks, but there’s a way to do it so that their bodies are still getting what they need.

My best tip to satisfy your kids craving for something salty and crunchy is to sprinkle a pinch of salt on some sliced veggies like peppers and cucumbers. It’s the same sensation as chips and a dash of salt still has half the sodium as a bag of pretzels. ⁣

The same thing can be said for sweet cravings – instead of “fruit gummies” which are really just candy, fruit like grapes are nature’s candy and an easy replacement. Unsweetened dried or freeze-dried fruit like mangos, blueberries, and strawberries are great options too!⁣

What veggies do your kids eat?

People have laughed at me and talked MAD SHIT about my shake, but my shake gives me protection and confidence that I am armed against food related disease and illness and lowers the risk of me getting sick. It’s kept me and my family undeniably remarkably healthy for 8 cold/flu seasons. ⁣⁣
I wonder how many people who have wanted to join me, but then ghosted me year after year, are now wishing that they had of joined me, not because they have more than likely only gained weight over the past few years, but because they know their current lifestyle doesn’t give them great confidence that they will dodge the Coronavirus. ⁣⁣??‍♀️

But when it all comes down to it — If you want to avoid catching ANY virus or illness one of the most proactive things you can do is to eat your greens, stay hydrated and greatly reduce or avoid sugar all together. (Sugar consumption lowers immune function and leeches the body of the micronutrients it needs for so many critical bodily functions, including immune function.)

A close second would be to turn OFF the news. Fear is what is killing us.
